Many holiday cottages to discover!

Whenever you're travelling to Wedderlairs , there are a few things you should always take with you. Preparing for a little rain is always a good plan. An umbrella and an anorak or rain coat can get everyone smiling even on the worse days.

We think a good book is another essential. Not just an opportunity to catch up on your reading, but also to pass the time waiting for everyone else to get themselves ready, or wait out the rain! Finally you should take a few initial supplies, such as tea, coffee, milk, bread and some cheese. Of course you can usually buy them locally but it's easy to forget and there's nothing better than a cup of tea before you start unpacking. We love finding great new cottages, part of the fun of a holiday is not quite knowing where you're going!

Wedderlairs Accomodation

Throughout the area rates will vary quite a bit throughout the year - clearly the winter is the cheapest time. The school summer holidays generally run from the middle of July to late August.

Half term in the summer extends across the first half of June, as different schools break up at different times. Booking early is always a good idea. You have a much better chance of getting your preferred date and accommodation. But, that doesn't mean its impossible to get a late booking.

Many cottage owners have signed themselves up with national agencies to help with the marketing and administration, which also helps keep standards to a certain level.

Holiday Cottages

In the unlikely event that you are not delighted with your holiday cottage in Wedderlairs please email or call the agency you made the booking with. Nearly all country cottages have free parking near the property, but you may find the urban cottages to have more parking restrictions.

The cottage owners may leave some hints for good places to visit nearby and on occasion we've even found that they'll suggest a specific pub or restaurant where you can get a discount. If you're travelling from a long way, you may not know much about Wedderlairs so we suggest a little research in advance to find the best attractions.

Some properties will ask for a security deposit before your arrival date - although this is required in a minority of accommodation and you will be advised at time of booking.

Families, Friends and More

Young children and babies can be more easily accommodated for in a holiday cottage where the parents do not feel pressure from other families who may not have young children. Youngsters are always excited about self-catering breaks, but we've collated a short list of things to help it go smoothly!

Although its not to all parents' tastes, you can buy very cheap in-car DVD players to amuse the kids, and they can often be plugged into the standard power sockets when you arrive. Snacks for the car can make the trip to Wedderlairs much more pleasant - bored kids with low blood sugar are not the perfect companions.

Sometimes just taking a few soft toys from home can make bedtime feel more comfortable in a strange house, and they don't need to take much space in the boot.
