Torthorwald Cottages
Cottages for families and friends in and around Torthorwald

Many holiday cottages to discover!

To make the best of your trip in Torthorwald, we recommend you bring some essential items. You can never be sure of the weather, so take something to protect you from the rain - ideally something that can be packed in a rucksack just in case.

We think a good book is another essential. Not just an opportunity to catch up on your reading, but also to pass the time waiting for everyone else to get themselves ready, or wait out the rain! And then we always make sure we have good supplies with us when we arrive so that we can sit down and have a cup of coffee and perhaps a piece of cake before we start that boring unpacking! Many people have favourite places they return to again and again, whereas we like to find new places to stay.

Torthorwald Accomodation

Wherever you stay in Torthorwald there's usually a good range of fun to be had outdoors - from the most energetic sports to the most relaxing pastimes. Banking on non-stop sunny Dumfries and Galloway weather, however, can be a little short-sighted.

Although its great to be outside in Torthorwald, you can often have just as much fun with your friends or family if you stay in and play some games. If there's a TV in the property then you can sit around a watch re-runs of quiz shows, comedies and whatever else is on.

Or just ignore the rain and get on with whatever you had initially planned and be determined that a little water will not spoil the day.

Holiday Cottages

Before you book that 16th Century thatched roof cottage with low ceilings, you may want to ask the tallest people in your group/family whether the olde worlds charm outweighs the pain of bumping heads on beams. If you have young kids in the party you may want to think twice about open fires, and of course some of the oldest cottages may have lower ceilings than those you are used to.

Dog owners often like to spend their holidays in the UK so that they can take their four legged friends with them. Many places will accept dogs, but it's always a good idea to double check in advance if it's not mentioned on the booking website.

We want you to have a great Dumfries and Galloway holiday so we wish you the best of luck finding your perfect accomodation.

Families, Friends and More

Families love cottage holidays because they can run to their own schedule, managing everyone's unique needs in the privacy of a comfortable home. When you're travelling as a family with young kids there are several things we recommend you take with you.

First of all, make sure you remember their shampoo, since not all stores in Torthorwald will carry tear-free shampoo. A lot of the cottages we've researched do have some basic infant facilities such as cots and high chairs, so definitely ask if you need them.

Clothes for the full range of weather; just because you don't think that it looks good outside in the rain it doesn't mean that the little ones will agree.
