If you like watching films and there's a DVD facility in the cottage then it's a good idea to stock up on some good movies so you can spend a couple of nights enjoying the classics. Although you can buy your essential food and drink items locally, it's great to have them with you so you can make a sandwich or a cup of coffee as soon as you arrive. We have stayed in many types of cottage, and we've decided we like both traditional and modern - it just depends on where we're going.

Strathdon Accomodation

Besides the facilities within the Strathdon cottages, our guests have been known to talk long walks, go horse riding and even more adventurous activities such as climbing. As we all know, the weather isn't always idyllic - in fact it can be largely unpredictable.

When the weather takes a turn for the worse its a great time to stay indoors and play some classic family games. With wi-fi more and more common (but don't expect urban speeds) you could even download a few great tv shows or games.

Or you can just embrace the weather and get out there in a raincoat, splash about, and pretend that you really are still young.

Some people ask whether bed linens and towels are provide, and in our experience linen is yes, towels can be no - but you should check with the owner / agency.

Families, Friends and More

Young children and babies can be more easily accommodated for in a holiday cottage where the parents do not feel pressure from other families who may not have young children. Young children can make your stay even more fun, and we have a few suggestions of things to bring.

If your kids ideal break is to be locked in their room with a video games machine, then prepare the outside adventure with bikes, kites and other stuff to get them out having fun. If the children are really young, don't forget to take nappies and / or a potty as you may find it harder to buy these at your destination.

Finally, remember to take your camera - there's nothing better than seeing smiling, happy faces running around and you'll want to capture them.
