Many holiday cottages to discover!

To make the best of your trip in NG8, we recommend you bring some essential items. Preparing for a little rain is always a good plan. An umbrella and an anorak or rain coat can get everyone smiling even on the worse days.

We always make sure we take a good book. There's always plenty of downtime on a cottage holiday, and so it's a great time to catch up on a read. Finally you should take a few initial supplies, such as tea, coffee, milk, bread and some cheese. Of course you can usually buy them locally but it's easy to forget and there's nothing better than a cup of tea before you start unpacking. We love finding great new cottages, part of the fun of a holiday is not quite knowing where you're going!

NG8 Accomodation

NG8 holiday accommodation rates increase in peak season, which is generally around the times of the school summer holidays. The summer holiday period (for schools) runs from mid-July through the whole of August.

Summer half-term usually appears in the first couple of weeks in June, although different types of schools have different dates. Booking early is always a good idea. You have a much better chance of getting your preferred date and accommodation. But, that doesn't mean its impossible to get a late booking.

Many cottage owners have signed themselves up with national agencies to help with the marketing and administration, which also helps keep standards to a certain level.

Holiday Cottages

Before you start to research your holiday accommodation, it's worth asking everyone what they are looking for. If you're travelling to NG8 in a group of single people, are there enough beds in the bedrooms?

Many NG8 visitors like to bring their pets (normally dogs) when they go on holiday. Many places will accept dogs, but it's always a good idea to double check in advance if it's not mentioned on the booking website.

Don't forget to make the most of your holiday - none of us get enough of them!

Families, Friends and More

Self-catering is an ideal way to holiday in NG8. We like the freedom of eating meals when we want. There's something wrong with taking a holiday and then finding out that you have to get up early or you miss the breakfast you've paid for.

And it also gives the freedom of eating out without needing to reorganise any plans in your accomodation. You don't need to tell anyone, just sit down and order! Waking up without the alarm, cooking a nice hearty breakfast, perhaps sitting by the river for a spot of fishing or just reading a book.

On the other hand, there's a growing proportion of visitors who use their time away from home to get fitter and try new things - such as mountain biking, horse riding or canoeing.
