The private and state schools tend to have differing half-term dates, but normally the first half of June is summer half-term. Booking early is always a good idea. You have a much better chance of getting your preferred date and accommodation. But, that doesn't mean its impossible to get a late booking.

Whether there's a swimming pool attached to the property, or in the nearby leisure centre, swimming trunks and swimming costumes are easy to forget. Snacks for the car can make the trip to Hurn much more pleasant - bored kids with low blood sugar are not the perfect companions. 

You'll need to think about a few of their favourite books and games to help them feel at home in the cottage and settle in for a good nights sleep.
