If you are looking for a great British break then a cottage holiday could be the perfect answer for you, your friends or your family. The vast majority of our self-catering properties are cottages in rural towns and villages, but we do have some city based properties, many of which are apartments. Staying in a Borrowdale holiday cottage can be a perfect way to take a break as you can forget about household chores and focus on having fun, or a relaxing break. Dog owners favour cottage holidays because many properties will not just allow pets but provide a few basic supplies. We often have late availability offers on holiday cottages for family or group bookings but you'll obviously get a restricted choice.
Children love to get out of the cottage (not because the cottages aren't great, but because its fun to play outside!) and this is a great benefit of staying in a country cottage. Trusting the sun to shine every day is rather optimistic in Borrowdale regardless of the time of year. If the rainclouds arrive it may be a good idea to stay inside and get out a pack of cards or an old fashioned board game. Some cottages will provide a few books and magazines but you aren't likely to get the latest blockbuster or this month's Vogue. Or you can just embrace the weather and get out there in a raincoat, splash about, and pretend that you really are still young.

In the unlikely event that you are not delighted with your holiday cottage in Borrowdale please email or call the agency you made the booking with. Some of the best cottages in Borrowdale are really excellent and so we encourage you to make your reservation as soon as possible to avoid availability disappointment. Although you may not be familiar with the local area you'll usually find that the owners have left a welcome manual with details of local places to eat, drink and buy supplies. If you're travelling from a long way, you may not know much about Borrowdale so we suggest a little research in advance to find the best attractions. If you are travelling from abroad, please make sure that you have the correct visas (if required) and all the passports are up to date.
Young children and babies can be more easily accommodated for in a holiday cottage where the parents do not feel pressure from other families who may not have young children. Young children can make your stay even more fun, and we have a few suggestions of things to bring. Although its not to all parents' tastes, you can buy very cheap in-car DVD players to amuse the kids, and they can often be plugged into the standard power sockets when you arrive. If the children are really young, don't forget to take nappies and / or a potty as you may find it harder to buy these at your destination. Sometimes just taking a few soft toys from home can make bedtime feel more comfortable in a strange house, and they don't need to take much space in the boot.
