Cottages for families and friends in and around Balmedie

Many holiday cottages to discover!

In Balmedie, whatever time of year, and whoever you are with, we have a few suggestions for essentials to take along. Definitely pack some waterproof clothing. There's no such thing as a guarantee against the rain and there's nothing worse than being stuck inside.

If your family and friends are anything like ours, you should have a good book ready to fill those times when everyone's getting ready, or waiting for them to come back from a long walk. There are obviously local stores that can supply you with all the food you need, but we always like to arrive with coffee, tea bags, a pint of milk, a bar of chocolate and some bread and butter for the toaster - it's good to get the energy up after a long journey. We have stayed in many types of cottage, and we've decided we like both traditional and modern - it just depends on where we're going.

Balmedie Accomodation

Balmedie holiday accommodation rates increase in peak season, which is generally around the times of the school summer holidays. Mid-July til the end of August are the core weeks for the Balmedie school summer holidays.

If you want to avoid half-term in the summer, draw a line through the first two weeks of June. Booking early is always a good idea. You have a much better chance of getting your preferred date and accommodation. But, that doesn't mean its impossible to get a late booking.

Some of the best cottages in the UK are fiercely independent and have incredibly high standards, and more recently the rise of agencies has helped increase standards right across the board.

As a reminder, we do not actually take the cottage bookings, we simply connect your with the agencies or owners. Should you need to cancel your accommodation, again we ask you to contact the agent or owner since we cannot talk to them on your behalf.

The cottage owners may leave some hints for good places to visit nearby and on occasion we've even found that they'll suggest a specific pub or restaurant where you can get a discount. Balmedie has long been popular as a place to stay and we encourage you to investigate the surrounding area as much as possible.

Some properties will ask for a security deposit before your arrival date - although this is required in a minority of accommodation and you will be advised at time of booking.

Families, Friends and More

Self-catering holidays can be the most fun in Balmedie. It's so much more relaxing when you can eat when it suits you - cooking exactly when you want (and whatever you want).

And it also gives the freedom of eating out without needing to reorganise any plans in your accomodation. You don't need to tell anyone, just sit down and order! We know many people who consider a holiday cottage as the perfect way to wind down after a busy urban lifestyle - sleep in, take lazy walks through the countryside and take more time over meals.

For others it's an opportunity to get more active, from mountain biking to cross-country running. If you're over 60, we recommend the more relaxed approach!
