To make the best of your trip in Ayr, we recommend you bring some essential items. You can never be sure of the weather, so take something to protect you from the rain - ideally something that can be packed in a rucksack just in case.

If you like watching films and there's a DVD facility in the cottage then it's a good idea to stock up on some good movies so you can spend a couple of nights enjoying the classics. There are obviously local stores that can supply you with all the food you need, but we always like to arrive with coffee, tea bags, a pint of milk, a bar of chocolate and some bread and butter for the toaster - it's good to get the energy up after a long journey. We're often asked which is the best place to stay, and it's so hard to answer, it really depends what you are looking for.

Ayr Accomodation

Getting outside is one of the great benefits of staying in the countryside since so many of us live in urban centres where the air is polluted and greenery is a rarity. Banking on non-stop sunny South Ayrshire weather, however, can be a little short-sighted.

When the weather takes a turn for the worse its a great time to stay indoors and play some classic family games. Some cottages will provide a few books and magazines but you aren't likely to get the latest blockbuster or this month's Vogue.

Whatever you decide, we're sure it will be a memorable part of your cottage holiday in Ayr.

Holiday Cottages

As a reminder, we do not actually take the cottage bookings, we simply connect your with the agencies or owners. Some of the best cottages in Ayr are really excellent and so we encourage you to make your reservation as soon as possible to avoid availability disappointment.

The cottage owners may leave some hints for good places to visit nearby and on occasion we've even found that they'll suggest a specific pub or restaurant where you can get a discount. Ayr is a great locations for a cottage holiday due to their proximity to local facilities and amenities.

Some properties will ask for a security deposit before your arrival date - although this is required in a minority of accommodation and you will be advised at time of booking.

Families, Friends and More

There are many benefits to a self-catering holiday in Ayr. It's so much more relaxing when you can eat when it suits you - cooking exactly when you want (and whatever you want).

Of course it also means that you can skip a meal in the accommodation and just eat out - perhaps grab some fish and chips, or maybe a pizza or burger. We know many people who consider a holiday cottage as the perfect way to wind down after a busy urban lifestyle - sleep in, take lazy walks through the countryside and take more time over meals.

There's also a growing number of holidaymakers who just want to get really energetic and try new things, including abseiling, rafting, climbing and even potholing.
